Over the past decade Colleen Blackston, a Licensed Certified Social Worker- Clinical (LCSW-C) has provided counseling
and treatment support to individuals, parents, families,
and children as young as two years of age, through
adulthood. Colleen has facilitated support groups for
survivors, as well as abuse intervention groups for
perpetrators of intimate partner violence.
Through working with this resilient population, Colleen
gained a depth of knowledge in early childhood trauma
and its reverberating effect on one’s life, and
relationships shared. While working in Private Practice,
Colleen’s commitment continues to focus on adult
clients, who've experienced childhood trauma, who are
still attempting to reconcile past pain. This reconciliation
of experiences often supports high achieving
professionals, many of whom are first generation
success stories, grappling with imposter syndrome, as
they learn to embrace the awkward silences associated
with the peace they have worked so hard to achieve.

Colleen specializes in treating PTSD, depression,
anxiety, adjustment disorder, and grief. She utilizes
experiential treatment approaches, psychodynamic
practices, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy techniques, EFT-Tapping methods, in
conjunction with sand, art, and child-centered play
therapy techniques.
Colleen currently has numerous projects in the works
which includes children’s books, and workbooks, as she continues
extending her reach in the realm of public speaking and
trainings.

Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives.
Anxiety and depression can be both debilitating and crippling. Symptoms of both may include feeling helpless, fearful, irritable, stuck, out of control, misunderstood, and unworthy. Such feelings often lead to withdrawal, decreased confidence, and social isolation.

Major healing, growth, and change can occur in environments where individuals find their "herd people" as it has been quoted that "the absence of human contact is traumatizing to both the mind and body".
Shining In The Shadows, LLC hosts Pyschodeducational Support Groups which provide educational awareness, resources, and coping strategies that individuals can incorporate in their day-to-day life. Groups assist participants in stepping out of isolation, and into a supportive environment where they will be seen, heard, and respected by their peers in search of similar acceptance.
